Galleries on the Side 2021

For each Art is... festival we gather work from local artists, who are responding to our theme, and make a gallery of the front windows of the Horsham retail district. Artists and shops together, bringing art to shoppers and viewers to shops.

Very complicated in 2021, harder than 2020... We were proceeding as "normal" and went into a stay-at-home order on the Thursday before the Gallery was to open on the Saturday, so some work was up and some was not... We extended our dates, but some artists couldn't get their work in, and then some shops needed their windows back.

Everyone was generous but it was a difficult time. Some works never got photographed, we never got to do our walk around, we were never stable enough in terms of a catalog to produce a map that would be accurate. It looked like it would all open up, then it closed again...

Next year...

We want to to thank our shops:

Art is... Horsham College 2021

Horsham College students contributed linocuts, 3-D design of figures in motion, photographs of human shapes in improvisation, theatre studies costume design, and steampunk outfits. Thanks to teacher Emily Friedrichsen for leading this and curating the PDF that is alongside, and to Amcal Chemist, Horsham Camera House,  Forty Winks, Newsagency and Emma Kealy MP's electorate office for hosting them.
