Art Is... Still Happening! and that includes bringing Galleries on the Side back to promote Wimmera artists and demonstrate the support local retailers have for our region’s artists. As one of those artists, it’s your chance to shine by putting your work in Horsham shop windows, driving art viewers to those windows and demonstrating the support that artists and local business have for each other. In 2020, in the face of Covid-19, Galleries on the Side is partnering with Business Horsham since we’re all in this together and encouraging #shoplocal.

 

Since we will have fewer shops we’re also having art that is produced and then submitted by photograph, and we can even take the photo. Instead of a walking tour launch, given social distancing requirements, we will have a zoom broadcast, where artists can introduce their work, and where all the art will be showcased. We have prizes, as well as the fame, and we can list work as for sale.

 

We’re accepting any work that you have or want to produce over the next month.  The original theme was Art Is... Unexpected, our new theme is Art Is... Still Happening, of course the current situation lends itself to artistic inspiration. All and any of those themes are acceptable. You’ll need to produce an artist’s statement but we can help with that, and although you’re very welcome to be part of the launch you can participate in that however you like.

 

What’s unchanged: the retailer gets to agree on the art and the artist, and the arrangements are organised directly between the artist and the shop, although we have support for those who are socially isolating as required.
